Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) students have been protesting for the second day against the entry of Chhatra League in front of the Shaheed Minar since 8:00am today. At this time, the general students placed their ultimatum to expel 6 students including Imtiaz Rabbi who involved in the issue of student politics in BUET within 2 hours. The students gave their  ultimatum in a press conference on Saturday (March 30). Earlier in the morning they started protesting with different placards.

The students said that we general students of BUET are feeling insecure after outsiders intruded on the campus last March 28 midnight. In this regard, we submitted a demand to the BUET administration on Friday to secure the BUET campus. Keeping everyone informed about the current status of the same and re-submitting our modified demands as per the developments.

Although student politics has been banned on the BUET campus after the murder of Abrar Fahad, some leaders and activists of BCL entered the campus around 2:00am on Thursday and carried out political activities. Expressing anger over the incident, the students submitted several demands to the BUET administration in writing yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the BUET authorities last night cancelled the residential facilities of Imtiaz, a resident of Titumir hall, and formed a probe body in the wake of the students' protest, according to a press release of the university.

They said, yesterday all batches of BUET placed the first demand of our movement and also about the issue of Imtiaz Rabi, who the main organizer of the political gathering at midnight on March 28 for violating the clear rules of the university.

We identified some of the other students of BUET who were involved with Imtiaz Rabbi in the said incident through pictures and video footage. They are A. S. M. Anas Ferdous, Mohammad Hasin Arman Nihal, Aniruddha Majumder, Zahirul Islam Imon and Sayem Mahmud Sazedin Rifat. Like Imtiaz Rabbi, we demand permanent academic and hall expulsion from BUET for violating the rules of the university constitution and trying to infiltrate political evil forces in BUET campus. Apart from these others who were involved whom we have not been able to identify, all of them should be identified by the Buet administration immediately and punished with the same term as the accused mentioned above.

The students said, "We asked the administration on Friday for a clear answer and accountability on whether legal action will be taken against the external political figures who entered the campus or not." In view of that, the Vice-Chancellor assured us that action would be taken on a verbal basis. We are currently seeking written notice and implementation of this demand from the BUET administration.

The BUET authorities imposed a ban on political activities after Fahad Abrar, a second-year student, was beaten to death allegedly by BCL activists at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 7, 2019.
